Name: Brian Kana
Nicknames/Titles: None
Age: 22
Age Appearance: 14
Race: Human (Or maybe not... He's not really sure...)
Gender: Male
Appearance:Brian has straight dark blue, almost black hair, just long enough to hide his ears behind, which are just pointed enough to seem rather odd when in plain view. He wears dark, navy blue robes, which along the edges have a wide strip of golden-colored fabric. His eyes are also so dark a grey as to almost be considered black, the irises only slightly lighter than the pupils.
Brian has an incredibly thin frame, being only about 90 pounds though he's four feet and 10 inches tall, and a slightly pale complexion. He usually looks as if he is about to faint, but he always manages to keep himself standing through sheer force of will. His movements always seem slightly unsteady, and usually unsure. Even when his movements are careful and deliberate, they still seem slightly unsteady, yet when they require precision, he will still succeed. It's almost eerie in a way...
Personality: Brian is extremely timid, and rather easily startled, sometimes even ending up being scared of his own shadow, literally. He is a friendly person, once you get to know him, but he tends to be cautious around strangers. However, he is a bit naive, and it's not difficult to gain his trust. Brian is a very kind person, but he tends to freeze up under pressure. When put into an especially dangerous situation, it is entirely possible that he will end up needing to be protected... Even if someone else also needs protection.
However, he does wish to get over his fear. In truth, it's not entirely a matter of being a coward. Rather than being less able to resist his fear than a more brave person, it is almost as if he feels fear much more strongly than other people. It seems to paralyze his limbs, but not his mind, as he tells himself to move. Sometimes, he will break free of the seemingly unnaturally magnified fear, and seem truly courageous.

Being with other people
Being in the dark, strangely. He won't mind being alone if it's dark, interestingly enough.
Dislikes:
Being alone
Combat (especially melee combat)
Especially bright light. It doesn't really bother him a lot, but he prefers to be in a somewhat dimly lit room than direct sunlight. He's not sure why himself...
Greatest Fear: That he'll become so scared during battle that he'll freeze up when his allies are depending on him.
Ambitions/Desires: To stop being so scared of everything, and to get rid of the power sealed inside him... These are actually related in a way.
Weapons: A naginata, basically a long pole with a blade on the end. It doesn't really look like anything special, but the pole is six feet long, while the blade is two feet long. It's actually surprisingly light... Brian is able to summon it or make it disappear in an instant, which is a good thing considering how much longer it is than he is tall...
Abilities and Fighting Style:
Brian has a natural ability to use dark magic to attack his enemies. The darkness he summons leaves a slight draining effect that lasts for a while even after he stops it, very slowly leeching the life out of the opponent. While it is directly attacking them, they will feel some slight fear and inexplicable sadness, while any they already have will be magnified tenfold.
If an enemy gets too close, Brian will take out his naginata and use desperate, fast sweeping strikes to try and knock the enemy away from him.
Strengths:
Powerful dark magic
More strength than he visibly would appear to have
Ability to see through darkness
Weaknesses:
Occasionally freezes up during combat out of fear (rare, but it can happen)
Though he uses dark magic himself, if he's attacked with it, his fear will be magnified even further, essentially guaranteeing that he'll freeze up. Light magic on the other hand, makes the power sealed inside him go berserk, and he'll charge into melee combat... While also actually being physically weakened.
Physically extremely fragile, and won't last long at all in melee combat
History: Brian was raised by two nobles in a country in another world. They told him from the beginning that they weren't his real parents, and neither were very kind to him. In addition, he always had a strange voice in his head, whispering to him frequently, undermining his confidence and whispering to him to make him give in to his fear whenever he felt it. He was always easily startled, and was terrified of ghost stories. His father was cruel, and would tell him the most terrifying of stories until he would be nothing but a shivering wreck. He'd fall asleep and have nightmares...
Brian never did play with other children much, preferring to stay inside and read books... Usually in a dark room. For some reason, he liked the dark, even though most other people found it scarier than the light... And even though his own shadow often ended up frequently startling him.
One day, Brian was sent to go retrieve something for his parents in place of one of the servants, and he ended up bumping into a woman in knight's armor. He tried to apologize, "I'm... Uh... I'm sorry!" and tried to walk away hurriedly. However, not paying attention, he tripped over something (apparently he was rather clumsy that day...) He heard a woman's voice, probably the knight's, ask, "Are you alright?" He looked up, and sure enough, the knight was leaning down, her hand outstretched. Blushing slightly, he nodded, and let her help him back up.
"Th-thanks..." Brian said. "It's fine," she replied. Brian hesitated, unsure if he should just go along or if he should introduce himself. He decided to introduce himself. "I'm... Uh... Brian..." he said, as unsure as ever. The knight looked at him strangely, "Is something wrong?" she asked. Brian shook his head. She shrugged, then told him, "Well Brian, my name is Shara. It's nice to meet you." She smiled warmly at him.
Brian said, "Well... I guess I should probably get back to what I was doing now..." and then rushed off. He got what he was supposed to, then on the way back... Bumped into Shara again. He apologized again, and she replied, "Don't worry, it's alright. How were you supposed to know I'd be coming around that corner again?" she chuckled. Brian wasn't sure what else to say, so he just went off.
Apparently Brian was now his parents' official slave, because he continued to be sent on errands over and over again. Every once in a while, he'd meet Shara again. They would occasionally end up talking, though he never really did become less timid, and he'd usually stutter his way through their conversations.
One day, Brian was carrying something back to his house for his parents, when he was suddenly attacked! He was slammed against the wall, and the box he was carrying fell open, scattering its contents, a number of papers, across the street. He looked up, and a man was in front of him, holding a mace above his head, looking like he was about to smack it down on Brian's head.
Brian froze, unable to do anything, but then suddenly, there was another hand around the man's weapon, this one with a gauntlet on it. The mace was yanked out of the stranger's grip, and then thrown to be sent flying against a wall. The man was then on the ground, as Shara had thrown him as well. She kept her foot on his chest and her sword pointed at his throat as she asked Brian, "Are you alright?"
Brian simply nodded, but then sat there, still slightly dazed. Some other guards came, none of them knights like Shara however, and carried the man off. Shara however, stayed, apparently still concerned for Brian. She helped him onto his feet, and he felt his head clear when he stood up. He bent down to pick up the papers he'd dropped, while Shara helped.
When he'd picked up all he saw, he began heading back to his house. However, he then heard, "Hey, you missed these!" He looked back, and Shara was holding about five pieces of paper. When he got closer to her again, he noticed that she looked troubled. "Is something wrong?" he asked, but she simply shook her head.
She didn't seem to want to talk, so Brian took the papers and walked off. However, suddenly, he felt curious about what was written on them... He decided to look at the ones that were still out, and found out something eerie... All of them appeared to be reports of people who had been successfully captured or killed, addressed to his father... One of them appearing to have been written by Shara!
Brian didn't understand it... He looked back toward where Shara had been, but she was gone. He'd wanted to ask her about that... Oh well. He put the papers back and delivered the box to his father, knowing better than to ask him about it himself. That night, Shara visited his house. Before he could talk to her however, she was already in his father's office, so he couldn't talk to her... However, he did hear shouting as he stood outside.
Suddenly, everything seemed to be consumed in flames, and then it all went black. He had a strange nightmare... If it could be called that. There was nothing but deep darkness, and the voice in his head kept taunting him in various ways. After some time of this, he felt himself being shaken awake.
Brian opened his eyes, and saw Shara there. He got up and looked around... It looked like they were the only survivors, and the entire city had been pretty much reduced to ashes, leaving only the castle.
Shara soon found out that the entire kingdom had suffered this fate. Many places hadn't been damaged nearly as badly as the capital, there were a large number of survivors outside it. The queen was dead, the princess who had been imprisoned had disappeared, as had the king... No one who had seen what happened had survived...
Slowly, the people rebuilt their kingdom, but there was no heir to the throne. After some time however, the princess reappeared... Though she'd once been feared as a demon, as she healed the people with a seemingly magical song, she was thought more of as an angel... Considering that she now had wings, it didn't seem that far off.
Shara had been mostly heading out and getting rid of bandits when not helping rebuild things, but she was currently visiting Brian when the princess came to the town he was staying in. However, Brian suddenly felt horrible. He was shaking far worse than normal, and the voice was going crazy. Brian knew that he couldn't let it do as it wanted, and he resisted with all his strength. He felt so terrified though...
Suddenly, the princess came rushing in, and began singing the song of healing she was known for. The pain, the fear and the voice stopped, and Brian fell unconscious, into a dreamless sleep. When he woke up, he asked, "What happened? I felt something, and I was suddenly so terrified, that voice-" He cut himself off quickly, but it was too late. "Voice?" Shara asked, "What voice?"
Alicia interrupted, "It seems likely that whatever power is sealed inside him can affect his mind somewhat. Apparently it sensed us nearby, and didn't react well..." She shook her head, "Leaving him alone with that power wouldn't be a good idea. He'll have to come with us when we leave again..."
Shara interrupted. "Hold it! He's not going anywhere dangerous without me!" The two of them didn't disagree, apparently they wanted whatever help they could get. A light shone out from Alicia, and enveloped Shara. Brian didn't know what it was, but he got no explanation... Though Shara seemed fine, so that was good.
Shara and Brian didn't bother asking for an explanation. Brian himself somehow remembered the crazy explanation the princess and her companion had given of their journey to stop evil... He actually believed it. Alicia left, while Drake stayed to make sure nothing else happened with Brian. After some time, Alicia came back, and asked if they were ready to go. Neither Shara nor Brian objected, and suddenly, they found themselves in another world.
They traveled together for a while, along with some other companions, but it wasn't long before something especially strange happened. Drake disappeared, and after some discussion, Alicia decided to try and find out where he went.
However, she didn't come back for some time, which was strange... After some time, Brian spoke up, sounding unsure of himself as always "I... Uh... Want to follow Alicia and Drake..." Shara looked over at him, "What?" "Erm..." He seemed unsure of what to say, "I... Uh... I don't want to just sit around waiting... If they haven't come back yet, something's probably really wrong and... I, well... Don't want to just wait... I'm scared, but..."
Shara said to Brian, "Alright. I'll go with you." He was relieved, he hadn't wanted to go alone. He instantly knew what to do, and concentrated, trying to figure out where Alicia and Drake were... He could sense them somehow, the world they were in... And then he was in another world. But, Shara wasn't anywhere in sight... Brian felt so scared and alone now...
