Abilities and Fighting Style:

• Magical Abilities:
  
  • Lucien can project a magical red mist from his hands. The mist is capable of blocking out all sunlight while still allowing him to see clearly. Beings other than vampires have their vision completely obscured by the mist if they enter it. The mist is essential as Lucien will be depowered to the level of a normal human in sunlight, as well as experiencing a constant and unbearable burning sensation wherever the light touches him.
    
  • Lucien can shapeshift into a single large bat about the size of his normal form or into multiple smaller bats. In the case of the smaller bats, the survival of even a single bat can allow him to resume his normal form but he will be weakened for each bat that is destroyed. He cannot return to his normal form from any of his bat forms as long as he is in sunlight.

  • Lucien is stronger and more agile than a normal adult human (but not a trained fighter or athlete) and can regenerate from fairly severe wounds as long as he is not exposed to any of his weaknesses. During exposure he is reduced to an ordinary nine-year old boy, albeit one with (useless) wings.
  
  
  
• Weapons:
  
  • Like Remilia and Flandre, Lucien possesses a legendary weapon, the spear Gáe Bolg. Its true form is unknown but Lucien can manifest it as a particularly ornate spear formed from his red crystal. It is the decorative appearance of these spears that differentiates them from his usual crystal constructs, which tend to be rudimentary at best. Gáe Bolg is also much, much more durable than Lucien's other crystal constructs and he uses it to attack targets that can withstand his normal crystal projectiles or to block attacks that manage to go through his normal crystal shields.
    
    If Gáe Bolg hits a target, it will instantly project numerous spikes from itself. The length of the spikes, their sharpness and their number depend on the amount of magic concentrated into the spear before it is thrown. Unlike Lucien's other constructs Gáe Bolg will instantly shatter and evaporate as soon as it stops projecting its spikes.
  
  
  
• Fighting style:
  When 'charged' with magic, Lucien's mist forms an incredibly strong red crystal that is difficult for ordinary humans or even minor Youkai to break. Lucien ends to fire projectiles of this crystallized mist or create shields from it, and it forms the basis of most of his danmaku. The crystals evaporate instantly after a short but unknown amount of time if left alone and they all evaporate at once if Lucien loses consciousness.

History:

Lucien is the son of a British nobleman whose family was fed on by a vampire while they were on holiday in Romania. He was the only one to enter undeath.

Fortunately for Lucien, his sire was genuinely pleased at this development and adopted him, training him in the ways of the night. His young mind soon overcame the trauma of losing his parents and siblings (who weren't too close to him to begin with) and soon he had enough lore and power to hold his own against the local blood-drinkers.

There came a time when zealots in the local church organized a massive vampire hunt, forcing them to go into hiding or leave the country. Lucien lost his sire during this time but managed to escape onto a ship bound for Japan, and after many (mis)adventures he stumbled across the Border into Gensokyo. He has been here for eighty years and counting.

Initially he had the same problems as all other non-human newcomers, lacking anywhere to stay or feed. He had to maintain a low profile, moving between caves and abandoned buildings and ambushing weaker humans and the occasional Youkai. His experiences during this time caused him to become more and more cautious, leading to his current difficulty in giving his trust to others.

Lately, however, he has become more settled and has gotten used to his life in the shadows, having resolved to be content with just making it through each day. The Scarlet Mist incident has also helped to embolden him further, as he believes that the red color of his mist might cause others to blame his attacks on Remilia Scarlet instead. Only time will tell if this is the case.
