Ran is the voice of reason at the Yakumo household and of Mayohiga in general. She is extremely mature and wise, and is as crafty as her long life and heritage suggest, although she does have quite a bit of a soft spot for her shikigami Chen. She carries out most if not all of the household duties and some suspect that she administrates Mayohiga as well, although the latter is unproven. Unshakably loyal to her mistress Yukari, she obeys all commands to the letter, except if she feels they may bring harm to Chen.

Ran has an unusual aptitude for mathematics and can make unbelievably complex calculations in a short amount of time without having to write all of them down. As she has not been exposed to a proper system of equations, however, her calculations tend to be unorthodox. She was notably able to produce a formula for calculating the width of the Sanzu river.
"Master of Shikigami"
Ran is the mistress of Chen, who obeys her every command. She can summon Chen at will although unlike Yukari she has to wait for Chen to arrive at her location. When fighting together with Chen the two of them usually have perfect coordination, but Ran will move to protect Chen if the latter is somehow threatened.
Fighting style:
As a kitsune with a full nine tails, Ran has exceptional physical prowess and devastating magical capability on her own. Tactics are not her forte, however, and she is fairly easy to outwit in the heat of battle, something which her bestial agility compensates for to some degree.
Ran's three greatest weak points are fried tofu (which she loves as a kitsune and which will distract her instantly), Chen (whom she will instinctively move to protect) and water (as all shikigami are weak to water).
