That's right, one year ago today I gave up on finding a Touhou RP and was bored enough to create my own! Since today is an important date it sounds like an awesome time for a story!
I like Touhou. A lot. I also like RPing. So I was looking around for a Touhou RP, but I wasn't having much luck. The ones I found were either A) canon only B) NSFW or both. Neither were my style, so I never joined any of them. Then I got this nifty idea. Touhou is awesome and more people should play it. So why don't I make an RP to get more people into the awesome? So I created a test board, a skin and a bunch of threads and I got people that knew nothing about Touhou to read those threads to make sure they were clear. A while later Illusionary Village Gensokyo was born.
That's right, I created this forum to get more people into Touhou.
I didn't actually expect anyone to join, and I was actually right at first. I didn't get a single member until a week after the forum was made and that memeber just asked me a few questions and never came back. I didn't get a member that actually posted until about two weeks after that. Then a few more people joined and activity picked up a bit. Then suddenly everyone left for reasons I still don't understand. I waited about a week before giving up and making a new forum based on something I plan to create when I have coding minions.
Then came the messiah known as Genshuku. He joined when I wasn't looking at the forum, so I wasn't there to RP, to approve his profile or anything. He apparently got sick of waiting for me to show up (good thing because I would have never shown up) and decided to come found me. He found me and Gensokyo lived once more. I figured I would be able to keep up with two forums no problem, but it didn't really matter because my other forum died suddenly for reasons I still don't understand.
It was just the two of us RPing for a few months, until Sarah joined in Feburary. Then it was the three of us for a while and more people eventually joined and it was exciting.
This has been the most successful forum I've ever run. I've had two other forums live for a year, but the first died shorty after because the main admin was a pushover and the second one had a considerable amount of dead time. I believe Gensokyo only had about two weeks of dead time before it was revived.
Now we just have to beat my overall forum post record of 50k something posts and 100 members and this will be the biggest forum I've ever run.
So thank you all of you for making this RP possible~ Let's make this year better than the last.
