It was a very dark night. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, but it was a new moon so the moon could not provide its usual light. However, the darkness was not about to stop a certain kappa from completing her mission; in fact the fact that it was dark made it easier for her to do.
Tonight Nadine was simply preparing for something. Her employer had told her to gather some information on the various smaller villages in Gensokyo and to gather as much information on youkai hunters as possible. It turned out that there was one village that had a suprisingly large number of youkai hunters in it, and apparently a few of them were famous for being over zealous about their job (if you could call it that). Her employer found this completely unacceptable and, being a youkai herself, she did as well. Tonight she was going to prepare to take that colony down.
She had created a bomb that was about the size of the nail on her pinky. If the information her underlings gathered was correct then there would be a well in the center of the village; more specifically a well made of stones with large enough gaps for her to hide her nano-nuke in. Nadine hoped that she would never have to set off this bomb; she hoped that the people living there would relinquish their racist ways, but she would be prepared to turn that place into a crater if it was clear she needed to. Tonight she only planned on putting that bomb into that well and then leaving that village before anyone realized what she was. If only things could go always go as planned.
Technically she could have gotten someone else to do this, but she desperately needed a break from working on her current creation. A walk on this crisp and cool evening sounded great, so she just decided to take care of it on her own. Plus the thought of sending some of her underlings into A) a village primarily inhabited by humans and B) primarily inhabited by youkai hunters was rather...unsettling to put it mildly. Not to mention she'd have to let them touch extremely dangerous weaponry as well.
Fortunately Nadine already looked pretty human, so it wouldn't take too much effort to make her look like an ordinary human traveller (granted she would be pretty clean for a traveller). Her attire was very different from what she normally wore. Normally she would wear short skirts and heels, but today she was wearing simple, brown pants and simple leather boots. Her shirt was long sleeved and covered her torso (another drastic change from what she would normally wear). To finish off the traveller look she wore a simple black cloak with a hood to help conceal her face. She also kept three weapons on her person just in case she needed them: a sword, a simple handgun and a small canon that shot a laser that resembled Final Spark (in fact, that's where she got the idea for this weapon). And of course she was wearing her glasses because she couldn't see more than a few inches in front of her without them. That was where this night started to go wrong.
Once the village was in sight she got this odd feeling that someone was following her. Nadine ignored it at first, but remained alert. The feeling didn't go away and as time passed she heard a feint buzzing noise. That was when she snapped, pulled out her gun and shot at whatever it was that was following her. It turned out that it was only a small fairy, so while she wasn't actually in any danger she didn't feel too bad about shooting it. Plus, the shot only hit the fairy in the leg. She just breathed out a sigh of relief and continued walking towards that village. However, the fairy looked less than pleased. It quickly flew up to Nadine and stole her glasses before she could react to it, and flew away before she could try to get them back.
This was bad. It was hard enough for her to see without her glasses, coupled with the fact that it was pitch black out everything basically looked like a large blurry mass of black. She was carrying a small lantern with her, but she was hesitant to hold onto it. Sure, it helped her see when she had her glasses on, but now it was only forest fire bait because the chances of her tripping over a rock when she couldn't see her feet (even with the lantern) was very likely. So, she blew out the flame and abandoned the lantern. After several yards of repeated tripping and bumping into things she finally arrived at the village. She looked much more like a traveller now since she was covered in scratches and dirt from all of her stumbling.
There were a few lights in the village, so she probably wouldn't bump into any houses at least. It was late enough that she hoped that there wouldn't be a lot of people out. Being seen by more people would make it more likely for her to be exposed as a youkai, and bumping into people would only help with that. She was still pretty sure that she looked human enough to not get caught, but unneccisary risks were always bad.
Good Kanako it was hard to tell which direction she was supposed to go when everything was just a huge blur. She squinted and wandered around for a bit until she saw what looked like a more major road. That road took her right to the center of the village and there she saw (well felt, she actually bumped into it) the well she was looking for. Finally, now all she had to do was plant the bomb and get out of there before anyone noticed. Nadine grabbed the nano-nuke from her sleeve, bent over and started feeling around for a sutible position to put it. Part of her wanted to look around to make sure no one was coming before doing this, but with the way her eye sight was right now she knew that would be pointless. Right now she just hoped that at the very least no one would pick a fight with her. Her close range combat was next to worthless and it's not like she could exactly aim when she couldn't see more than a few inches in front of her.
