It's about time I got back into things, new character instead of bringing back my old ones. Although that's not saying I won't~
---------
Name: Hojou Gamatatsu
Nicknames/Titles "Neotany of Everlasting Youth"
Age: 90
Age Appearance: Around 12 or so
Race: Youkai (Axolotl)
Gender: Male
Appearance
- Head/hair Ornament: Neotanic gills, which are simply frills that extend from the head of an axolotl or waterdog.
- Hair colour: An aquamarine color
- Hairstyle: Short, well-kept, reaches to about the botttom of his neck.
- Eye colour: Brown
- Skin colour: Fair complexion, but is growing tanned from being outside alot.
- Clothing: Often times, wears a navy blue vest with a white T-shirt underneath. Pants are usually green shorts that double as a pair of swimming trunks. Perfect for his semi-aquatic lifestyle. Hojou also wears swim goggles around his neck even though he himself doesn't need them. He claims they're only for show and make him look stylish.
- Other: Has a rather noticeable tadpole-like tail.
Personality: Hojou can easily be described as rather childish, and acts just the way he looks...like a child. That said, Hojou loves to play games and is willing to join in any game someone is willing to include him in, even if it includes Danmaku. Becasue of his child-like mentality, Hojou is a docile youkai and will do what he's told if the person is older than him, due to him seeing them as something of an authority figure over him. However, if whatever the person/youkai tells him to do goes against his fun loving agenda, then, like any 12 year old, he'll rebel and do things his own way.
For example; say Sanae confronts Hojou and tells him to stop shooting danmaku at their donations box, if Hojou saw this as harmless fun, then he'll get angry with her and throw a tantrum. Needless to say, these 'tantrums' can easily be quelled with either sweets or...other, more aggressive, actions if the one on the business end of said tantrum is willing to go that far. Hojou's also rather naive, and usually is oblivious to things that older people can see or understand, that said he can easily be tricked by someone or is highly susceptible to falling for various pranks. If he happens to fall victim to the latter, Houjou will usually just laugh it off along with the person who tricked him, although this isn't always the case as he may get angry with the person if their joke came off as mean or hurtful to him.
Hojou does not like talking about growing up, and will usually avoid the subject if it is brought up while he's around. Likewise if someone tells him to 'grow up' then he'll take it as an insult and will either attack the person out of frustration or will run away from them. The reason for his dislike of growing up is because he feels that it will result in him having to change his fun filled lifestyle, in exchange for one that requires responsiblity and basically nothing worth looking forward to. However, deep down he actually wishes to mature a little if only to be treated better by others whom he feels should show him respect, despite being a kid.
Likes: Playing games and those who play said games with him, warm or wet weather, sweets and other various 'Junk foods'.
Dislikes: Being treated like a child (despite acting like one), cold or dry weather,
Greatest Fear: Snakes, Growing up
Ambitions/Desires: None in particular, usually just wants to live life having as much fun as he can.
Weapons: None, will usually just use anything that looks like it would hurt the opponent, namely rocks, sticks and the like.
Abilities and Fighting Style
Age manipulation - Hojou's ability is the power to manipulate age, in this sense he is able to make someone (or something) young or old at will. The effects of the ability are not (as many say) permanent and will gradually wear off in a mere 24 hours time. However, if Hojou constantly manipulates their age to a certain extent, then it is possible for them to become 'stuck' at that age, at which point the effects will never wear off and the person is forever cursed to remain young or old (However, if done right, they can remain in a state that suits their desires). The ability itself also has an adverse effect on Hojou as it is slown down the rate he ages at a dramatic rate (almost to the point where he doesn't age at all). It is rumored that his power may even be reversing the aging process and thus is making him younger, but such claims have yet to be proven as true.
Houjou will also resort to Danmaku, if he must fight. His danmaku bullets are in the shape of Tadpoles, but he doesn't use spellcards, if only because he doesn't know how. Although he does utulize a few signature attacks, which are listed below:
'Neotany Comet' - Hojou summons forth a Tadpole shaped bullet and hurls it at the opponent. The bullet itself travels at speeds faster than an average danmaku shot and leaves behind a trail of smaller bullets that spread out in spiraling motion. The initial shot can be curved, but otherwise it's a straight shot and thus isn't as accurate as a normal danmaku bullet. Even so, it takes up little energy to use and can be fired in rapid succession, making for a fast and persistant assualt on the opposition. Unlike his next attack...
'Axolotl's Impact' - Hojou charges in magical energy, focusing it in his mouth then unleashes it in a thick beam of energy. This is one of Hojou's most powerful attacks, but has several glaring weaknesses that make it all the more inconvineint to use. For starters, the charge time takes a good 5-7 seconds to complete leaving Hojou open for any attacks the opponent might have to stop the charge from finishing. Although it is powerful, and destructive, it isn't very accurate and once one is fired it takes Hojou a good while to gather the strength to fire off another. In short; this attack can be as powerful as it is inconvenient and usually isn't worth the risk of using unless the opponent is unweildingly slow or stupid.
Other than this Hojou doesn't have much else going for him, but in all honesty he doesn't always like to fight and usually tries to avoid disputes when ever he can.
Strengths: Being amphibious in nature, Hojou is an excellent swimmer, much like the kappa are, and is capable of holding his breathe for large amounts of time as opposed to many other creatures. His skin, while smooth and sleek, is also slippery, this makes it hard for others to keep a good hold on him and makes it easier for him to slip in and out of tight spots. However, this trait is dependent on how wet he is, so if he's dry then he won't be able to utulize this ability much, if at all.
Weaknesses: Hojou's skin needs to stay moist, that said, he doesn't take well to heat and/or hot days. He can usually go awhile without water but if it's more than a few week or so, his skin will start to dry out, if time continues on and he still has not found water then he'll begin to suffer from dehydration. Hojou's rather naive, which is due to him being stuck in a child's mentality, thus he is easily fooled or tricked by those who are a bit more mature than he is. Case in point, his naivity also means that he doesn't always understand things that others do and usually requires a thorough explanation in order to make it clear to him. Snakes and 'Growing Up' are Hojou's glaring phobias, the former stems from his elders speaking of snakes that prey on youkai like him, not wanting to be any form of meal, Hojou proceeds extreme caution when venturing near the Moriya Shrine (for he's been told that a snake goddess lives there).
History: Hojou was born to a family of salamander youkai in a marsh not far from the area where the kappa reside. Hojou was born the youngest out of several children, and while his siblings recieved many of the benefits for being older than him, Hojou however had something none of them did; the power to manipulate age. Of course, Hojou himself knew little to none about his extraordinary talent to reverse (or speed up) the aging process at the time and simply lived life as normally as any salamander youkai would.
However, his oblivious disposition toward his ability would not stop it from manifesting itself, such an event came about during a rather one-sided argument he had with his older sister. Furious with the way she was treating him, Hojou activated his powers and reversed his sisters age to that of his own. Surprised (and a little spooked by his power), he consulted his mother about what happened. To his surprise she knew of this power, but was holding off on telling him because she felt that he was much too young to control it at the time.
Hojou agreed with his mother and promised that he would never use it again.
Hojou's father, to whom knew not of this power, saw something in his son that he could use to make a profit. Namely the same power, Hojou just swore to his mother that he would never use again. Hojou's father, convinced Hojou to help him open a special kind of business using his power. Reluctant, Hojou wanted to decline but he was always told to listen to those who are older than him...especially his parents, so he accepted (albeit unwillingly).
As this special business opened for the first time, Hojou soon found himself being used as a living 'Fountain of Youth' for the many vain humans who wished to remain young. Hojou knew it was wrong to go against his mother's wishes but, it was his father who asked of him to do this so...how was he to react in this situation?
Hojou didn't know...so he continued to obey his father's word and thus word of the young salamander who could turn one young again spread across Gensokyo. Humans and youkai alike came flocking to the marsh to seek Hojou's power. His father, being the one showered in the riches these humans and youkai provided wasn't concearned with Hojou's increasing distress and simply allowed things to continue as they did. Unaware that things were about to take a horrible turn...
Hojou's mother discovered this 'special business' her husband opened and sought to put an end to it at once. She confronted Hojou's father about this and the two fell into a bitter argument of what was best for their son. His father claiming that he was putting food on the table with his hard work, and his mother arguing that Hojou should not use his power while he's this young. Hojou however...didn't care about any of this, he simply wanted them to stop fighting.
As the salamander children looked on to their parents giving each other vicious verbal assaults. Hojou found that this was all his fault...if he hadn't have agreed with his father they wouldn't be fighting. If it wasn't for him, none of this would have happened.
Eventually, this inner conflict caused Hojou's power to go haywire. In an instant everything around the young salamander was ensnared in the range of his ability to speed up the aging process, and thus everything began to age rapidly. By the time Hojou had realized what had happened, he saw that everyone was gone, the lot of them having been aged into utter oblivion. Everyone he loved was gone...and once again it was his fault.
Fun Facts (optional):
-Gamatatsu translates to 'Frog Dragon'
-Hojou's 2nd attack is referance to Pvt.Tamama's attack from Keroro Gunsou.
-Him being eternally young might be a call back to the Touhou character Ellen, whom is also eternally young (or so she claims).
