Hiyas~
This Touhou fanfic is called “The Scarlet Mima.” Yes, lame, I know. It’s about Mima stealing a book from the Scarlet Devil Mansion and is told from first person.
Prologue
Well, flying over Misty Lake was easy. At least, when you’re a spirit and you have wings. If you’re a nekomata, you’re out of luck. But I’m not a nekomata. I’m a spirit.
This is a tale of adventure, thievery, and strange happenings at the Scarlet Devil Mansion that I’ve decided to share with you all just for the heck of it. It all started when I tried to figure out the best way to get past that gatekeeper…
Chapter 1
Of course China Hong Meirin noticed me when I tried to fly over the gate, which was a foolish thing to do when one is as skilled at lying as I am. She, of course, called out a spellcard right away. The “Gorgeous Sweet Flower” as she called it was all yellow and pink, but never mind that. I had my own tricks.
In fact, I was just about to use one of them when I realized that there was a better way to get in. A way that was as easy as pie, as they say, though I don’t really understand that saying. I never have. I mean, come on, in what way is pie easy?
Back to the tale…
So anyway, I was dodging bullets as I flew my way to the gatekeeper. As soon as I saw her I sank into a deep bow.
She stopped the spell. I guess she was shocked that I bowed to her.
“Hello,” I said, straightening myself up into a standing position. “I’m sorry about earlier. It just so happens that Remilia-sama is expecting me. You see, she found out about this other vampire who might want to take over, so she sent me to investigate.”
All a big lie, of course. I was really there to steal.
But the guard seemed convinced. “My apologies,” she said. “You may proceed.”
And proceed I did. Now I had to make sure that that maid Sakuya didn’t see me. I had heard she was very good at knife-throwing.
Chapter 2
Okay, so I’m walking down the hallway of the mansion. Now who should I be to the maid, I wondered?
I thought a lot. Sakuya was really more vigilant than China, and she threw knives. She was stronger too. What to do, what to do?
Then I had it. I would say I was the librarian’s guest. The only problem was that I didn’t know her name. Was it Pattily? No, that couldn’t be right. It was Pat-something or other, I just didn’t know what.
As this thought process was going through my head, I suddenly heard someone say, “Where do you think you’re going?”
I found myself face-to-face with the maid.
“I’m sorry,” I said in the most sincere voice I have, which is pretty sincere actually. “I’m Lady Knowledge’s guest. She invited over for tea.”
Sakuya stared.
“Patchouli Knowledge invited you for tea?”
So that’s what her name was.
“Yes,” I lied. “We met on Youkai Mountain. She was doing some research, and I happened to pass by. I said hello, she said hello, and it kind of escalated from there.”
That seemed to do the trick for a bit. I dashed pass before she had a chance to throw a knife at me. I’m assuming she got the hint that I lied and the footsteps I heard behind mine were indeed hers as I ran to the library.
