Rekainas was flying across the misty lake. Midway, he wondered whether the rumors in the Human Village were true. If there really are that many books... I'll get to learn so much.. He had stumbled upon the rumor at a restaurant earlier that day. I only seemed right to investigate, as it was one of few rumors that held within it a location. The center of a misty lake.... Rekainas didn't know what to expext en route, but didn't think it would be the best reception... A castle full of vampires, the rumor said... how odd... Rekainas decided that stealth was one of the best assets he'd have here. He had never met a Vampire in his life, and didn't want to meet one today. He also heard of a mighty doorgaurd, and a magically adept librarian that hated interuders more than anything. He'd stocked up on smoke bombs.
This is going to be a long trip.

Shinuiya was bored out of her mind. Today was supposed to be her annual break day, but all she wanted to do was train-- It was nice to laze around for a day, but there wasn't really anything to do.
*Yawn*
Shinuiya decided she'd just take Kuroimira and fly straight in one direction until she found something to do. And so she did, until she noticed a mist on the horizon. All for a little excitement from who knows where, Shinuiya investigated closer to discover the mist was floating over a lake; likely a quite large lake, but the mist mostly obscured it. Well, there might be something interesting in there. Might as well check, she thought to herself. Mentally preparing her sword and herself for any and all inevitable threats-- inevitable, because she lives in Gensokyo, of course-- and dived down to the lake. The air chilled more and more the closer she got, until she entered the mist, and all turned to cold and white.

Rekainas flew over the misty lake. It was cold out. He stopped to take a break as he realized there was a ghost nearby. A ghost among vampires? odd.... Another odd point, the ghost was unarmed. Rekainas decided it would be best to approach, but with caution. This was a delicae situation, not knowing whether someone was friend or foe. Actually, he thought, maybe I should get their attention. "Hey, you over there! Ghost!" "Can you hear me?"

Shinuiya had been charging through the mist without hesitation, as is usually her strategy when she senses none around. But then there was a sound, small and far away, but she heard it. There was a mortal presence barely within range for her to notice. She took a defensive flying stance, and went about 45degrees right of where the presence was. Hardened by battle as she was, she would never give up a chance for a surprise attack, especially when against an unknown enemy.
"Hey, you over there! Ghost!"
She heard the call again, this time understandable speech. It seemed she had been noticed before she dove for cover in the mist. With still more caution, she slowly sped to the clearing in the mist where the perceived enemy was, taking a short peek. It was one human, looking somewhat naive and confused, probably because Shinuiya had disappeared so quickly. Shinuiya decided she had best come up behind this adversary, for the most effective surprise strike. She flew through the mist into position.

Where did that ghost go? This is taking too long! If I fight, I'll just wake the gate guard!! Rekainas flew downwards, near the lake. He then rapidly flew upwards and towards the mansion, his destination all along. Well, it's gonna be long.... The ghost was nowhere in sight. That could have been a friend, too, but he needed to get going now.

Shinuiya reached the spot she planned on, to find that the human had fled down, just above the lake, and right under her. She immediately braced for an attack below, but none came. She guessed the human had just gone on without wondering about seeing her? Humans could be incredibly foolhardy at times, so it was plausible.
Shinuiya hastily dove through the mist to the lake's surface and, quickly locating the human, followed it strongly and silently.

So, the rumours were true... Sure as that, there was a mansion on a peaceful isle. Rekainas decided to scout the area before entering the nearby proximity of the island, checking to see if anyone resided nearby. The gatekeeper seemed a likely person to encounter, but it was hard to really know who you'll find until you go, as Rekainas thought. He took a final backwards glance, then moved inch by inch to the shores of the island. The Scarlet Devil Mansion, deadly to visit for all humans.... or so the rumours say, but I'm sure at least one or two have come and gone. Rekainas crept closer, then looked around yet again.

The human had been flying pretty constantly, without pause. Eventually, something began to materialize through the mist. It was an island; an island, yes, but most notable was the large castle on it. The human began to slow down as it neared its assumed destination. Then, almost before she could prepare herself, she saw the human turning back, in Shinuiya's direction. Shinuiya almost dropped Kuroimira, but quickly regained her composure. Dropping her sword meant she was powerless, but also intangible. She used to think it was useful to escape from trouble, but it tended to get her deeper in trouble more often than not. She would always have to go back to get Kuroimira again later, after all. Instead, she dove straight downward, as fast as possible into the lake. She slid into the water without a sound; it was one of those special talents she deemed worthy of use in battle when trying to be discreet.
The human did not seem to see her, or not really, because it just took a long stare at where Shinuiya was previously, and eventually turned back to face the island castle. She poked her head just above the water to observe its progress; it was too far away to notice movement so far down on the surface of the lake. So, she waited for the human to fly to the mansion, and check whether it was safe to force entry. It never hurt to use the ignorance of others to gain you knowledge, as Shinuiya had learned over the years.

Rekainas was approaching the gate. Odd, it seemed there was no gatekeeper there. This is very peculiar, it may be a trap... The gatekeeper was also apparently very crafty and smart. But that was yet to be found out. Rekainas crept a little closer, but did not go closer than 12 feet of the gate. He was on the alert, and if there was a trap, he was going to let him find it, rather than the viceversa. The ghost was apparently gone, probably off to do something else irrelevant. Rekainas ducked for shadow cover, and waited, shooting out a near invisible speck of flame towards a nearby woodpile. The fire had traveled low, and Rekainas was trying to cause a commotion somewhere other then his location. He sat and waited for his trap to work.

Shinuiya, for all her years of relentless training, was losing patience. How long was this flying human going to just float there? Then he shot a small jet of flame downward. Kind of strange, though she supposed there might be some traps or whatever set on the mansion. Of course, any trap bad enough to be set off by some fire was probably not too much to worry about anyway. Shinuiya continued to wait for the human to finish his foolishness.
