History:
Nicknames/Titles: Little Devil
Age: Unknown; young for a devil.
Age Appearance: Late-teens or early-twenties.
Race: Devil (Succubus)
Gender: Female
Appearance: [x] [x]
- Height: Average for a young human of her age appearance; about five and a half feet.
- Weight: Average for a woman of her size; about 115 pounds.
- Skin: Light
- Hair: Long enough to go down her back, and a dark shade of red. Koakuma wears her hair straight down, with her head wings separating the hair down her back from the hair that flows around her shoulders.
- Eyes: Red
- Build: Average/Light
- Clothing: Koakuma’s outfit consists of the uniform Patchouli knowledge has required her to wear. This uniform looks like a business suit, including a white shirt, purple/black vest and skirt, and a red tie (although she sometimes changes things up by wearing a ribbon or necklace instead). She also wears simple dress shoes with either socks or stockings.
- Distinguishing Features: The most striking thing about Koakuma are the two pairs of wings she possesses. One pair is on her mid-back, and the other at either side of her head. These wings are not so different from the wings on the vampire sisters in the mansion, but they are a sign of her heritage as a devil rather than a vampire.
Personality: Koakuma‘s personality is usually hidden beneath her devotion to her boss, Patchouli Knowledge. She can be very carefree as most demons of her age are, but she takes her job as a library assistant very seriously. While most devils would be very dissatisfied with a “grunt work contract,” Koakuma genuinely enjoys her job and likes her mistress.
- Positive Traits
Koakuma is able to treat her job seriously without losing her relaxed personality. Being able to remain devoted to Patchouli, despite her “lowly“ position, is one way in which her versatile personality is shown. Another thing Koakuma excels in is her way of staying friendly to newcomers, despite her mistress‘s harder time accepting them. While Patchouli can be paranoid about new people being thieves, Koakuma usually greets them with a smile. She also acts as a sort of guide through the library, with her friendly and knowledgeable tone helping visitors find the books they need.
- Negative Traits
Something Koakuma may have trouble with is her personal feelings regarding her situation. Most devils would have done their best to avoid being contracted for something like manual labor, but Koakuma accepts such things without much thought. To her, Patchouli’s words are absolute. While she is not a drone, she’ll believe whatever Patchouli says, even if it’s wrong.
- Likes
Koakuma‘s favorite things are her job and her mistress. She‘ll happily spend hours working without rest for Patchouli, no matter what else is happening. Like Patchouli, she also enjoys coffee and fine teas, and she is usually more than happy to prepare them. Should any guests arrive, Koakuma will offer tea after offering a tour.
- Dislikes
Like Patchouli, Koakuma dislikes intruders that would try to steal the book in the library (partially because she is in charge of the first lines of defense). Aside from this specific aspect of her job, Koakuma finds re-charging the magic in defensive tomes to be a very tiring task. Letting hot beverages go cold and fresh biscuits go stale are a pet peeve of hers, although one of the Scarlet Devil Mansion‘s maids will usually take care of it.
- Fears
While she may not remember much of her past before being summoned and contracted by Patchouli, Koakuma does know that there are many powerful demons in the realm she originated from. Knowing that she will someday become a being of evil power is a bit frightening to the young library helper. Related to this is her fear of contact with any other demonic beings. Koakuma is afraid that she may be forced to break her contract with Patchouli if a devil lord finds her working in a manner unbefitting to a being of power.
Because of her attachment to her employer, Patchouli, Koakuma is also afraid for her health. Keeping Patchouli up to date in new books from the outside world that may contain health-related information is something Koakuma always makes priority. She fears that if she fails to help her mistress, her contract will be broken and that she will have to return to the realm from which she was summoned.
- Desires
Like her mistress, Koakuma does not have many worldly wants. Unlike her master, though, she knows exactly what kinds of things she would like. While Patchouli may not be as willing to admit it, she shares Koakuma‘s desire for an expanded clientele to the library. Koakuma believes that the books in the Voile should be available to others and works diligently towards this.
Koakuma also desires time spent with Patchouli. Even if she grows into a mature devil, she would like to continue working with Patchouli for as long as she can. Expanding on both of her other goals, Koakuma would like to see Patchouli become happier and spend time with others. If she meets someone who may share the same interests as her mistress, Koakuma will introduce them to each other in hopes of sparking a friendship.
- Habits and Quirks
Like Patchouli, Koakuma‘s daily routine changes little. She is usually awake before her mistress to begin preparing a light breakfast of coffee and biscuits. While patchouli studies, Koakuma will sort and put away the books used by Patchouli on the previous day, as well as waiting to hear if her employer requires any other grimoires or spell casting materials. Since she can usually get and put away books faster than Patchouli can read them, Koakuma will then perform maintenance on the library‘s defensive books and keep Patchouli‘s materials up-to-date.
Abilities and Fighting Style:
- Magical Abilities:
While she is not as talented as either a mature devil or her magician mistress, Koakuma does posses a few unique skills. She has a few main magical abilities, which she will mix together when fighting off threats to the library. As a succubus, Koakuma is able to use demonology and summoning magic to aid her in battle. She is unable to summon greater devils, but she will usually cast a quick spell while moving about to send knives of demonic energy at any attackers.
Koakuma is also able to harness powers of cold, and will send large clusters of cold air and wind at her attackers to slow them down or cause damage with concentrated bullets. She can create basic patterns using these large clusters of cold energy when fighting alone, but she will usually use only a few to support either the library‘s defensive book system of Patchouli herself.
Koakuma has one final, and very impressive, ability in her arsenal of magic. She is able to use blink and teleportation spells easily, and is very talented for a devil of her age. Using her other abilities, she will use quick, short-distance blinks to lay down several summoning circles or cold bullet patterns in a short amount of time. With more energy, Koakuma can use a limited teleportation spell to get from one area to another instantaneously, but this takes too much concentration to be a viable tactic when under attack.
Physical abilities:
- Like her mistress, Koakuma is not trained in melee combat. However, she is much stronger than her mistress in close-range, using both her flight and blinking abilities to maneuver around an opponent who gets too close before striking where they least expect it.
Weapons:
- Koakuma does not use any melee weapons in combat, and because her skills are natural abilities of a devil rather than trained magic, she does not carry a grimoire into battle. However, Koakuma coordinates all the magical books in the library designed to attack intruders, and she can do so with the ease in which a summoner controls a familiar. It would not be inaccurate to say that the entire Voile library is Koakuma‘s weapon.
Fighting style:
- Strengths
Koakuma‘s fighting style depends on using her book troops tactically, and catching an intruder off-guard is very easy for her. When she is forced to take to the field herself, her devil skills allow her to confuse an enemy while sending wave after wave of cold and knives at any number of enemies. Keeping an enemy on their toes, Koakuma can ambush anyone, even if they already know that she is attacking.
- Weaknesses
While her tactics are difficult to combat, Koakuma suffers from an overall lack of raw power. There are very skilled intruders who are able to overpower the individual spell books and Koakuma herself. Because of her status as a contracted familiar, Koakuma‘s strength ebbs if her mistress is not well (although distance from Patchouli does little to dampen her abilities, unlike the case of a Shikigami familiar). While not necessarily a weakness of her fighting style, Koakuma will always put the safety of her employer over her own, and is more than willing to take hits for Patchouli if she has to.
History:
- Koakuma is unable to remember much of her life before being contracted to Patchouli Knowledge, and she no longer remembers how long ago this exactly happened because of the days, months, and years all blending together. However, Gensokyo became aware of her existence at about the same time as her mistress‘s through her defense of the Voile library during the Scarlet Mist incident. Since then, the occasional visitors know to go to her first for help navigating the bookshelf jungle, as well as to avoid being seen as intruders. At the same time, thieves know to avoid her and the magical books she controls, let the entire library mount an attack against them.
