Personality: Vandater has a very amiable personality. She's friendly torwards almost anyone she meets, and loves various festivities and competitions. She doesn't anger easily, and can easily shrug off minor annoyances. When somebody threatens or harms members of her clan, however, she gets HELLISHLY PISSED OFF!!! And she's not above making a mess of said threateners, either... She is currently distrustful of humans, as her people have a bad history with them.
Likes: Hunting, seafood, sunbathing, onsens, more seafood, rain, sunshine.
Dislikes: Her watersuit, fishermen, clubs, spears/harpoons, people who drive boats through her clan's home.
Greatest Fear: That humans will slaughter her people, as they did in Midgard.
Ambitions/Desires: To ensure that her people can live amongst any soeciety without fear of discrimination.
Weapons: She carries with her a large oar, but quite often she'll fight with her feet, claws, or fists instead.
Abilities and Fighting Style: Vandater doesn't usually hit to kill, and she'll often just try to knock her opponent out with her oar or fists. When she is ready to kill, though, she resorts to doing things like digging her claws into her opponent or biting them... Like seriously biting them. She'd bite a human's neck off if she needed to protect her clan.
Vandater also wears on her back an empty sealskin. This sealskin can stretch to be worn over her entire body. When wearing the sealskin, Vandater can stay underwater for many hours without drowning. However, she avoids wearing this whenever possible, though, because she says it looks retarded. I don't see why she thinks that, though.
Vandater's spell cards include the following:
Aqua sign - Helvetevinka: Waves of frozen water, hard as ice yet flowing like water, come out of the water to fall upon Vandater's enemies with a crushing force. Yes, this can make people go "squish". Requires a source of water.
Aqua sign - Regnastorm: Heavy rainclouds appear in the sky, showering the area with water. In basins or enclosed rooms, this can cause the area to flood. This is usually useless on it's own, but can make her other spell cards more effective. It's also harmful to vampires and fire spirits.
Aqua sign - Kokning Vatten: Requires a source of water. Vandater can make up to 300 gallons of water become boiling hot. She is not immune to the heat, however. In order to use this spell, she has to stick her oar into the specified body of water and stir.
Illusion sign - Synhar: An army of ghostly seal figures appear and charge torwards her opponents. The more enemies she faces, the more seal figures appear. The figures are numerous, but weak and easily destroyed if they don't get to the target first.
Illusion sign - Vattervard: Both the target and Vandater must be in a body of water, boat or otherwise, for Vandater to use this spell. The water suddenly appears to be endless, stretching from horizon to horizon. As a result, the target cannot escape.
Strengths: Good swimmer, tollerant of (almost) all climates, skilled at unarmed combat.
Weaknesses: Reluctant to face many of her fears, not very reliable, somewhat clumsy.
History: Vandater is a member of a tribe of seal youkai who recently migrated to Gensokyo from another world. Since then they've taken up residence in many of the Gensokyo's waters, sometimes against the will of their original residents. They mostly live on shores and islands, but have sometimes been found in other locations. Vandater, however, likes to invade the lands of terrestrial life as well. Though fearful of humans, she enjoys the company of other youkai, and tries to be amiable as to give her people a good image. It doesn't help, however, that the seal youkai (herself included) have a tendency to eat a lot of fish and overpopulate the shores.
