Name: Carlos the Seer (pseudonym)
Age: 21
Age Appearance: 21
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Carlos is of medium height and build (around 5'7") and has brown skin, black eyes and black hair. His features are a bit sharp, giving him an Oriental appearance. He was brought into Gensokyo wearing his stage clothes, which consist of flowing robes with a wide sash, a turban and pointed shoes.
Accompanying him at all times is a crystal ball which looks like it is filled with smoke. The ball is about the size of a basketball and constantly hovers near him except for when he goes to sleep. At those times, it becomes inert.
Personality:
Level headed most of the time but will not hesitate to crack a joke if he gets the chance, even if he knows it is bad (and it normally is). He is also helpful and will not refuse to lend a hand if asked nicely. Being new to Gensokyo, a lot of things confuse him and he may seem lost at times.
Carlos goes by his stage name in Gensokyo and has not used his real name since his arrival as he is afraid that others might be able to control him if they discover it.
History :
Carlos was born to a line of seers who were keepers of a crystal ball capable of displaying the future. His family had a long standing reputation for accurate predictions and he too gained that ability. He was spirited away from his first session by Yukari, who wished to test his abilities out of boredom. She did not reveal her identity to him at the time.
Unfortunately for him, the changing nature of his powers and the uncertainty of the future in Gensokyo caused him to fail for the first time and Yukari released him to do what he pleased. As of this time he is still unaware of who Yukari really is.
Abilities and Fighting Style:
When he was in the outside world, Carlos possessed the ability to see a "snapshot" of the future in his crystal ball. He still retains that ability but the greater powers of the residents of Gensokyo allow them to change the future much more drastically than outside world humans, making his predictions inaccurate.
Abilities:
The different nature of magic in Gensokyo has changed his powers considerably:
1. The crystal ball he uses for making predictions is now an extension of his being and the focal point for his magical powers. In ordinary circumstances, it floats at his shoulder level. It can independently avoid obstacles or parts of Carlos' body, and maneuver by itself to stay as close to him as possible.
Being less than five feet from the crystal ball allows Carlos to fly with little effort if he desires. He is also constantly aware of the location of the ball and can move it freely and accurately even if both of his hands are occupied. It can't do much on its own, though.
2. Besides allowing Carlos to see the future, the crystal ball acts as a kind of "window" into any location that he might desire unless it is protected by magic stronger than his own (meaning anything stronger than fairy magic). However, the small size of the ball limits his field of vision as he can only see in a straight line.
3. If the crystal ball is taken far away or destroyed, Carlos loses most of his abilities. He can recall the ball from any distance but will have no power until it is near enough. If it is destroyed, he must recreate it by focusing his magic into an object of similar mass.
It must be noted, however, that taking or destroying the crystal ball will not affect Carlos' health. It will only remove his powers until he can obtain it again.
Fighting style:
Carlos channels his power into the crystal ball to fire magical blasts or to create a shield that absorbs attacks. The ball is his only means of attacking with magic and he will be defenseless without it. At the moment he is limited to firing either a single large blast or a scattering of smaller shots.
In melee he is limited to swinging the ball around but he tries not to do so as it might break. He has little if any proficiency with weapons or martial arts.
Strengths:
+ Minor magical ability.
+ Flight.
+ Can see the future and distant locations (with certain limitations).
Weaknesses:
- Unfamiliar with the spellcard system.
- Dependent on his crystal ball.
- Precognition is ineffective in Gensokyo.
- Limited field of vision when remote viewing.
- Physical ability is merely average for an outside world human, meaning that in Gensokyo he is relatively weak in that area.
