As its name implies this is where most of the humans live. Most humans that wander into Gensokyo from the outside world are pretty much forced to live here since they can't fight against the youkai. Youkai still come here from time to time to buy things, but attacking the village is bascially stupid. There are enough strong humans living in the village to take down any youkai that would attack it.
