The spell card rule is how people fight in Gensokyo. For the most part you will fight as you would in any other RP. This really only applies for an organized duel. If you're not familiar with Touhou and this doesn't make any sense to you at all don't worry about it. I just added it to make it more Touhou-esque for the Touhou fans since Spell Cards are such a large part of Touhou.

It would be dangerous for any youkai or human to defeat a shrine maiden in combat (it could potentially destroy the border, which would destroy Gensokyo), and many people felt this was unfair. So, certian rules were put in place to insure that people could defeat others without actually killing them. This was known as "The Spell Card Rule." The Spell Card Rule would allow both sides to show off their skills in a beautiful display of dueling power.
The main rules are:
1.) Spell Cards are nammed techniques. To use them the user must have declare that they are using them. Spell Cards are simply certain types of attacks. Again, fighting is pretty much the same as it would be in any other RP.
2.) The amount of Spell Cards that each side can use must be determined before the duel. What the victor will get if he or she wins must also be decided before the duel.
3.) The first person to use all their spell cards must admit defeat.
4.) The victor is entitled to whatever was agreed upon before the duel.
5.) The winner should generally allow the loser a rematch.
6.) If one side is not intrested in what the other has to offer then they can refuse to duel. The challenger may still attack if they wish though.
7.) People will rarely die because of the way duels work, but on the off chance someone does die they will become a ghost. IE, you can still play your character, they will just be dead.
Once these rules were introduced relatively weak humans could challenge strong youkai and youkai could defeat shrine maidens without worrying about the concequences.
