he like listening to the forest
as he walked he was making music with his wave gauntlet...nothing like an orcistra of birds

This place was weird. This was the first time Cirno had ever been to the Forest of Magic. The Misty Lake she lived in was getting boring, so she decided to explore Gensokyo a bit. So far she had only been able to conclude that this place was weird. It was all trees! If she had known that a "forest" meant that there would only be trees she would have gone somewhere else. Sure, the frost patterns the little ice fairy could make on the trees were kind of cool at first, but they got kind of boring after the 200th one. There were also some weird mushrooms that looked kind of tasty, but Cirno would rather forget that she ever ate those. They made her feel an odd sensation that she had never felt before, nor could she even begin to describe.

Cirno continued to fly through the forest. Surely there must be more to a forest than just a lot of trees right? Why would people even come to these places if they were this boring anyway? Then she heard an interesting sound. It sounded really weird. In fact, she had no idea what it was or how to describe this sound. Clearly this was worth looking at. She closed her eyes and tried to listen for the source of the sound. This made her bump into a few trees, and the guy that was making the sound before she finally opened them again.

Oh no, she ran into some guy. Almost all fairies ran away whenever they were spotted, and in this case Cirno was no exception. If this guy found her by the Misty Lake she might have tried to fight him, but she really didn't want to do something like that in such a weird place. She quickly darted to the leaves of one of the nearby trees and hid there. For once she was actually reasonably well hidden, though just about anyone with half a brain would be able to find her if they bothered to look. She seemed to be slowly learning from her past experiences if that was even possible.

She watched the guy from the tree, but she could only think about one thing. There was finally something interesting in this boring forest! Fairies enjoyed playing pranks on people in general, and it was Cirno's third favorite thing. Only third to freezing frogs and attacking people. She was an ice fairy, so everything around her was always cold, though she could take that a step further if she chose to. She decided it would be funny to watch him slip on a sheet of ice, so she grabbed the tree she was "hiding" in and slowly created a sheet of ice on it. It would continue down the tree and onto the ground where they guy was standing, though creating a sheet of ice this thick was a very slow process. It would take her a couple of minutes to finish it.

tanis looked at the fairy as she flew off to hide
do i really look that human?
he stopped and checked how he looked and stopped playing the music
because of the cold tanis' gauntlet locked up and he was unable to move the fingers on his left hand
with a sigh he looked at the tree
"im not human...im a lunarian"
he pointed at the moon as the ground below him froze
"got tired of the moon and wanted to look around this world"
he was going to walk over to the tree and convince her he wasn't going to hurt her but the first step he took he fell over
tanis' gauntlet hit the ground and there was a loud snap as some of the sound making wires and tubes broke....a couple drops of blood worked thier way out of cross' gauntlet as he stood back up
cross didn't even notice he was bleeding
"okay....what was that for?"

Wait, when did she say that he was human? When did she say anything at all? Cirno honestly couldn't tell the difference between youkai and humans, she could only tell the difference between fairies and everyone else. Everyone else looked the same to her. She would have done this regardless of his race, seeing a youkai fall over was just as hilarious as seeing a human fall over. Why was this guy telling her his life story anyway? She certainly didn't ask, nor did she really care. Ah well, he did have the decency to fall over for her, so she would forgive him this time.

Cirno burst out laughing when he fell over. It was just so funny! Though something wasn't quite right...He asked what that was for. She didn't have any real reason to do it, she just thought it would be hilarious (and it was). But no...That wasn't what was bothering her...Wait, how could he see her? She was totally hidden! Oh man this was bad. She wanted to avoid fighting, but it seemed like she had no choice now. She grabbed one of the nearby branches, turned them into icicles and threw them at the guy. Then she "hid" behind the tree again. Of course, he face was still in plain sight, but she didn't seem to think that was the case.

tanis slid out of the way of the ice and drew his sword
he be honest he had found here through echo loction and guessed about the human thing
"nevermind...."
he swung his sword and there was a humming noise
then the base of the tree cracked and then the tree fell
he had used a soundwave to blow the base of the tree
tanis then moved his left hand out infron and tried to move he fingers...all that happened is he ended up tossing a couple drops of blood in the fairy's direction
"crap...locked and it snapped"

Nevermind what? Cirno was confused now, though that was fairly normal. Then he managed to dodge her attack. It wasn't a strong attack, but she still didn't expect him to be able to dodge it (even though it was easy to dodge). She didn't think about what she would do if she missed, so she just sat in the tree dumbfounded. That was, until she heard a weird noise and the tree just snapped. The tree went tumbling down with her still in it. Fortuneately she was in the front of the tree, so it didn't crush her. She layed motionless on the ground for a moment before she got up again.

So he actually attacked the strongest being in Gensokyo? Cirno didn't want to fight him at first, but clearly she needed to show that she was the strongest, not this guy. She got up, stood right in front of the trunk of the fallen tree, and generated a stronger cold aura around her. If he touched her in this state he would probably get pretty severe frostbite.

"Ice Sign 'Icicle Fall'!"

Cirno activated one of her spellcards. Shards of ice appeared around her and started falling towards the guy. There weren't very many of them, but they fell at odd angles and came from both directions. It was actually much harder to dodge than it might look, unless he was able to figure out the secret. There was a spot right in front of her where the icicles would never go. She was never good at planning, so she didn't actually know this safe spot existed.

tanis whipped his weapon around above his head sending sound waves in all directions
sure it was a bit overdone but.....he didn't get hit
on the other hand in his disperation he had a leveled the area around them
tanis readied his sword again
"why the hell are you attacking me?"
he was starting to get a little dizzy from blood loss
when the wires snapped they must have really cut up his hand

Eh? He didn't actually want to fight her? If she had known that she wouldn't have used a spell card. It's not like Cirno was protecting her territory this time, so she didn't really have any reason to fight him. Well, this was certainly awkward.

"Oh," was all she could say as she stopped the spell card.

Sadly, as she did that she was hit by his attack. It hit her square in the chest since she wasn't really paying attention and it seriously hurt. It sliced the front of her dress and actually made her bleed a little bit. Now Cirno was actually upset. If he hadn't gone that far she probably would have stopped fighting, but she couldn't let an attack like that pass.

"I'm attacking you because you hurt me!" she said now that she could actually answer.

She took a bit of her own blood and turned that into frozen projectiles along with some of the branches of the fallen trees. Really, she was just throwing anything and everything nearby. Cirno wasn't exactly good at strategizing, so she just threw everything she saw directly at him.

"you attacked me first...i was defending myself"
he would have defended himself again but he was too tired and his vision was getting blurry
one of the branches hit tanis and knocked him off his feet
he had hit the ground and blacked out
tanis lay on the ground
his gauntlet had thawed out enough to unlock and blood spilled out of it

The guy seemed to have stopped moving. Well, that certainly not how duals were supposed to go, so it actually shocked Cirno a little bit. She stopped throwing things and just stood there and blinked. Was it dead? She hadn't actually seen a dead thing before. When a fairy dies they just kind of lay there for a bit and come back to life after a certain amount of time. Were...Whatever this guy was like that too?

Well, she had no way of knowing, so she opted to to the next best thing. She toned down the cold aura around her, walked up to the guy and started poking him. Her touch would feel chilly, but it wouldn't be enough to give him frostbite in this state. If he got up she would back off and probably start attacking him again, but if he layed there for too long she would get bored and leave. Like most fairies, Cirno had no attention span at all.

cross moaned and slowly opened his eyes
he looked over at his hand and then at the fairy
"hap-py...now?"
she had broken one of his weapons and it might cost him his hand

Was she happy? Even though it was kind of an easy question, it was still a question so Cirno had to think about it. She continued to poke the guy and she rubbed her chin with her other hand. It was clearly taking more mental effort than something like this should. Then again, she clearly didn't understand exactly what he was asking. Why would she be happy? She hadn't found anything interesting to freeze, and now she had a cut on her chest. Not to mention that there was a big hole in her dress Yes, she beat the guy, but Cirno was the strongest. Clearly there was no doubt that she would beat him.

She looked at the guy again. He was pretty beat up. Serves him right for daring to attack Cirno the ice fairy. Ah, was that what he meant? Was she happy with the outcome? Oh, that was easy then.

"Yes," she nodded and stopped poking him.

tanis sat up slowly and tore off his gauntlet...more blood flowed out
with a sigh he began to work on fixing his hand before he bled to death
he tore a strip off of his shirt and wrapped it around his hand and tied it tight
he looked back at the fairy who was as confusing as they come
she had attacked him for no reason
broke his gauntlet
attacked him again when he defended himself
and wounded him
with a sigh he asked her again
"why did you attack me in the first place"

Again, while it was an easy question it was still a question, so Cirno had to think about it for a second. "Because you attacked me first."

In her mind he did attack her first. She only wanted him to make him slip and fall over, but then he saw her. Being spotted was more or less the same as being attacked right? He wasn't supposed to see her, so she was rather shocked when he did, so she was completely convinced that he had indeed attacked first when that wasn't the case.

He did look like he was in bad shape, but that wasn't a problem. Cirno had seen injured humans...youkai...whatever the heck he was get hurt before. They all seem to get better at some point. And when fairies died they just laid there for a moment before coming back to life, so she naturally assumed that all living creatures did that. So, none of this was that big a deal. In fact, she was just starting to get bored again.

"if your going to be that way about it then leave me be while i try to figure out the damage you caused"
the fairy seemed to have no value on life
he looked at his gauntlet and began to take it apart
at the moment his hand was as okay as it was going to get for now
his weapon on the other hand was totaled and was going to have to be fixed
with a sigh tanis stood up
"now i have to wait till another full moon to go back home and fix this"
he waved the gauntlet at her
"i did nothing to attack you until after you threw an icicle at me?"
