Darkness.
That is all one can hope to see in the tunnels of Chairo's burrow, a geological labyrinth of stone carved out by the own two hands of it's secluded owner, who's sacrificed his social life to digging and underground exploration, or Spelunking if you want an better word for it.
Chairo buried his face in a hand drawn map of his network of tunnels then glanced at the wall that stood before him. "I've dug about 2 miles up so if I bust down this wall it should probably take me to the surface..." He stuffed the map into a pocket in his vest, before tearing through the wall with the use of his sharp earth moving claws. The sound of earth being destroyed echoes throught the tunnels as the mole youkai presses forward his powerful hands and claws slash and bash the rocks in his way as he proceeded forward. It doesn't take long before one of Chairo's hand pierces through the wall and hits air, the other following behind it to push the rest of the wall out of his way and breach yet another hole in the mountain's landscape.
The fresh mountain air breezes past him as Chairo exits the darkness of the underground and steps foot on the outside realm where he rarely ventures. The light from the sun is brighter than usual for he's been below Gensokyo's surface for days on end. It takes his eyes to adjust and even then their sight is rather poor, only being able to see a few inches in front of him, everything else is a blur or not there at all. Chairo often thought he should get glasses, maybe then he would be able to see a little better, but he hasn't had much money in a long while (none in about 5 months now) so until he can find some treasure below the surface then he won't be getting much cash until then.
Chairo let out a sigh as he took a seat on a large rock beside the mouth of the tunnel he just dug out of, taking in the fresh air before he would once again dive back into the abyssal depths of Gensokyo's underground.

"so your the youkai i've been looking for?"
he stood up
ohhhh...coome one bast let me kill it this time
go back to sleep you've done enough killing
fine......but im getting in the middle should something go wrong
"well rodent hope you enjoyed the underground....i'll bury you after your dead"

This was new, well there was more than one thing new about this current situation; for one not alot of folks would be standing by waiting for Chairo like this newcomer was, and two Chairo was pretty sure this guy was human as well. On a mountain brimming with nothing but Youkai (youkai that happen to dislike humans at that), having a human up here alone was indeed a rare sight. Of course this newcomer did look rather imposing so who's to say he wasn't cut out to come up here alone.
But enough about what's interesting, his life was, apparently, in danger. Not good in any sense...
"Oh so you were waiting for me huh? Wow, never had that happen before, heh heh..." The now nervous mole youkai replied scratching the back of his head slightly. Chairo quickly shut up as he realized this man was indeed serious about what he as intending to do. Was he one of those Youkai Exterminators like that shrine maiden he's heard about? If that's the case he was in deep doodoo. "Look, I, er, don't mean any harm here I was just comin' to the surface for some fresh air is all. So uhm can we lose the ominous lookin sword and talk this over?" He wasn't intending to fight...but if this guy wasn't going to back down after this then he'd have to take up arms and defend himself.

bast put his sword away and laughed
"im just kidding about killing you....actualy i need information and it seems you would be the most qualified for finding it"
he walked toward the mole youkai
"what do you know of castles?"

"Oh heh, you really had me goin there" Chairo chuckled a bit, of course kidding or not he was scared out of his wits just now. 'Oh thank Kanako...'
Chairo's attention soon shifted to the human's next question, apparently he was looking for information, which was focused on a castle no less. "Castles, huh?" He took about a few seconds to think about this question for a second before speaking up once again. "Well, some folks have been talkin about castle lately, says it's in the Forest of Magic no less, I don't usually go in there so I dunno if what they say is true or not though." It was true, Chairo usually didn't go to the Forest of Magic often the closest he's been was Kourindou, wihch was where he heard the rumor. "You plan on lookin for it?"

"you see from what i hear the castle is invisible meaning i cant find it"
he smiled
"you on the other hand im sure could tell if there was something as heavy as a castle on the ground"
this wasn't the plan
he hasn't done anything but dig so he isn't that big a deal...on the other hand there is something big going on with this castle

"Eh? You need my help?" Now it's not everyday a human comes to Chairo but for them to need his help was something unprecidented. Truly, this day was full of surprises. "Well it is true that if something is invisible the weight of the object it would still press upon the ground, that said, I should be able feel it if I were underneath it." This method was actually how he was able to dig beneath different structures and calculate whether or not the tunnel he dug would hold. It helped to make sure that cave ins weren't too much of a factor when digging new tunnels. "By the way, what's going on with this whole castle business anyhow? I'd love to be of help but I gotta know what everyone's gotten so worked up about."

Now it would be common knowledge that most incidents that occur in Gensokyo do in fact have the potential to be threatening on a global scale but being he himself has never really experienced any he didn't think it was possible. "End of the world you say?" Chairo remarked raising an eyebrow. "Well I suppose that's a pretty good reason to spread a rumor" He chuckled a bit now a little nervous as he realized finding this castle may very well be just as dangerous as it sounded.
"Well, we can go look for it right now if you want, I pretty much finished my digging for today so I ain't got much else to do" Chairo said as he leaned against the rock wall behind him before adding on to his statement to introduce himself. "I'm Chairo Kawatsuchi, by the way"

"Ah, good to meet ya Bast" Chairo replied, although hesitating a bit with the handshake, to be honest he's never really shook another person's hand before that sorta thing always eluded him because he was underground so much. Still, whether he did it often or not, he knew what it meant to other people and with that he shook Basts hand a put on a smile. "it's strange, you're the first person who actually shook my hand, although I can partially blame that for my lifestyle, haha..."
"Hmm well in that case we should go now and see what's going on with it...or should we wait until dark 1st being at that time not alot of people will be roaming about..." Chairo pondered for a moment before glancing up to Bast to see if he had any ideas on the situation. "What do you think?"

"Alright see you then." Chairo nodded before sighing a little to himself now being able to fully recollect on what just transpired in his lonesome. This castle he was to find housed the 'end of the world'. No pressure huh?
"I better get ready for tonight...this is gonna be a big job" He said slinking back into the tunnel to await night fall.
((So I suppose one of us will make the next topic elsewhere so we can continue on to the search, yes?))
