Vandater followed her in and looked around a bit. "... Hmm... Nice place you got here... Did you build it yourself," she asked, admiring the interior before sitting down at the table and waiting for the others.

Carlos sat down as well. The smell of the food made his mouth water and he swallowed, telling himself that he would not be the first to start. He looked around the house to take his mind off his hunger and saw that it was indeed a nice place as Vandater had said. It was clearly handmade after the fashion of the log houses he'd only seen in books before today and the level of craftsmanship was astounding.
Then he realized the significance of the owner's tail. He'd heard and read of creatures with similar tails that were skilled at building structures of wood and other natural materials. The owner of this house was surely one such creature- an interesting detail.

Kitria smiled. "Yes," she said to Vandater, "I did indeed build this myself. And thank you for the compliment!" She began to eat her catfish. This was the best day ever! Two new friends and some catfish. "So," she said, "what do you want to talk about?"

Vandater began to devour her meal, looking up at Kitria for a moment before swallowing what was in her mouth and then replying. "Actually, I was curious as to whether you were native to this land. My people just recently migrated to Gensokyo, and we've become somewhat familiar with some of the races here... But this is the first time I've seen a, uh... Beaver youkai," she said, unsure as to whether or not she got that part right. "You're not from Midgard as well, are you?"

Carlos had begun eating right after Kitria but he wasn't going as fast as the other two as he had to carefully remove the bones. The flesh was juicy and tasty, and there was no hint of the muddy smell he'd heard was present in most river fish. Yet another reason to stay in this land. He didn't join the conversation as he was engrossed in his meal.
The words 'migrated' and 'Midgard' caught his attention, however. If all this was true, it might mean that this land was a gathering place for mythical creatures, which would explain the prevalence of magic. He continued to overhear the conversation between Kitria and Vandater, focusing less on the taste of his food.

Kitria paused. She didn't exactly remember where she had come from, but it was worth a try. "Actually, I'm a platypus," she said. "They're semi-aquatic mammals with duck bills and beaver tails. I'm not native to this place, and I haven't always been a youkai. When I stepped in here as a normal platypus I...well...sort of 'grew' into who I am now. I've been here for many, many years now. Long enough to find this forest and build a house. I also found a book of old myths and some old...maps."

Vandater tilted her head, trying to take in the information. There was still much she did not understand about this place, and it seemed much of the magic worked in more abstract ways than that of Midgard... Nonetheless, there had to be some connection. Her spell cards still worked here, after all.
"... Hmm... I've never heard of a platypus, and yet this is not your native land either," Vandater said, still puting the pieces together. "... There must be some reason why so many foreign creatures are gathering here. We almost never got any visitors back in Midgard, yet it seems there are many here..."

Carlos decided to speak. "I have no idea myself but it might be because of the greater presence of magic in this land. My own powers were minimal in my world and most people didn't have powers at all, but it seems that every living thing here has some kind of ability or another. Perhaps this is just the right place for the supernatural."
He looked at Kitria. "For one thing, your kind are very different in my world. It might be that beings which achieve unusual power are drawn here by some unknown force or by some turn of fate. Stories of such beings are common in my world but their subjects are nowhere to be found. Perhaps they came here. This could be a land in which all myths come true."
It was an exciting possibility and Carlos might have gone on for some time, but he realized that he had begun to ramble and he stopped to wait for his new friends to respond.

Boy, Kitria was interested now. "Where all myths...come true? How adventurous! I've been searching for hidden secrets ever since I first got here! Oh, this is so exciting!" She suddenly stopped. "I'm sorry...am I talking too much? I should let you two say more, it is so intrieguing. Sorry, I'm just excited. I always love a good adventure." She giggled. She was having fun.

"Oh, it's fine. I'd love to here your thoughts on this matter," Vandater said, looking torwards Kitria before looking back to Carlos. "But if that is the case, I doubt it'd be the only one. Word is many of the beasts in Midgard are considered by outsiders to be mythical as well... Maybe this world, Midgard and the outer world were once the same place, maybe?" She rubbed her head as she pondered this. It seemed like a lot for her to take in.

Carlos leaned forward and rested his elbows on the table. "Well, there are some in my world who believe that, but most of us regard your world as a place of myth. Perhaps there might be at least some in your world who think the same of mine."
He looked at Vandater intently. "But you mentioned that Midgard received word of worlds outside itself. Back where I'm from such a thing would be considered impossible and many of us don't believe in worlds other than our own. I certainly didn't before I got here. After seeing all this, though, I am beginning to think that all the worlds we could possibly imagine are real and that they are all connected somehow."

By now Kitria was very interested. "I have an idea," she said. "I want to find out if any of these myths are true. And I think my two new friends should come with me!" She was excited. A real adventure, and friends too! Vandater was aquatic, and that was cool.

"Well... Most of what I know I heard from some orange kid. He was muttering to himself and writing something down. Don't think he knew I was there," she said in response to Carlos before Kitria spoke. "I'm not quite sure that I understood though. Most of it hurt my head."
Then when Kitria spoke Vandater looked over at her and started to think. "Hmm? Waddya mean, Kitria? Most of them walk around us every day... Or are you refering to something else?"

Carlos snickered and smiled. "You know, in some ways, that would make them anything but myths. Myths are things which some people think are real and others don't. If they were walking around where everyone could see them they would be real. Then again, that would mean that there are no myths in this world. Confusing, isn't it?"
He turned to Kitria. "Well, wherever you want to go I wouln't mind following. I haven't had time to find a purpose for myself anyway." Or a place to stay, he thought, but he didn't add that part.

Kitria finished her catfish and picked up a travel bag. "Let's head out then," she said. "I think if we want to explore we should go to the Human Village to get information. Then we can go on an adventure!" Her eyes were bright and wild with excitement. Friends and an adventure! How special! She considered herself a lucky girl indeed.
