Vandater finished devouring and stood up, tilting her head and looking over at Kitria. "The human village? I was warned about that place... Told it wasn't safe for youkai. You sure we should look there," she asked, a little worried.

Carlos leaned back in his chair and thought about the issue. Back in his own world, normal humans were suspicious of anything or anyone with magic and were hostile to such beings. Humans who had magic tended to dislike non-humans who had it. While the humans here would likely not hate magic as much due to its prevalence, they might still hold the same prejudices against Youkai.
Then Carlos realized that he was once again trying to judge the people of this world by the standards of his own. Youkai were certainly far more common here than back in his world, so humans here might have gotten used to them as well. The only way to confirm anything would be to pay some other humans a visit and gauge their reactions.
In any case, he himself was human. If all else failed he could simply deliver Kitria's questions himself while she and Vandater waited outside the village. Having made his decision he addressed his friends.
"It seems that neither of you have been there in person. I don't think we should jump to any conclusions about how we'll be treated there. Even if the people end up being hostile to the two of you I can always go in myself and ask around. I am human after all."

Kitria thought for a moment.
"You think we sholdn't go in there at first?" she asked. The truth was that she wasn't afraid of humans and she wanted to make new friends. This bit of information was told to Carlos.
She didn't understand why anyone would be hostile to her.
"Why would anyone try to attack me?" she asked. "I would not be mean to anyone."

"I've only seen a few here... Never bothered to talk to them... But if this world is anything like Midgard, then humans can be barbaric, malicious, horrible creatures... Of course, not all of them are. Carlos here seems to be a pretty cool guy," she said, quickly correcting herself as she looked back at her past. She had a bad experience with humans in Midgard, but from what she saw here she was willing to give these humans a chance. "... Yeah. I would like to meet this land's humans... But it would be wise to find out more about them first... Are you sure you're alright with that?"

After pondering Vandater's words for a bit, Carlos arrived at what he thought might be a solution to the problem. He wasn't completely sure that it would work but he believed it would be worth a try. "Perhaps you could disguise yourselves as humans. I don't know what passes for normal here but you two don't look too different from humans. Well, your hair is a bit out of the ordinary but even in my world people change their colors when they want to stand out. It's a long shot but we won't know if it works unless we try it."

Disguise herself as a human?
"It might be a good idea, but...would it be right? People might get mad at us if we were found out...I really don't like to be dishonest..."
Kitria pondered these thoughts. She might lose any friends she made, however, if she showed she was a youkai she might be attacked...

Vandater turned torwards Kitria. "Dishonest? Oh come on, it's not like anything bad'll come out of being human for a moment," she said, her outlook on the idea suddenly changing. "Don't think of it as being dishonest, think of it... Like you're dabbling in another culture." She pulled the sealskin off of her back and tossed it aside. "Besides, it could be a lot of fun. I've never seen a village in this world before."

Carlos looked at Kitria. Her concerns about what might happen if they got caught were valid enough but he didn't see how anyone would catch them in the first place if they kept a low profile. "Well, if you want to be careful I guess you could refrain from using magic while you're in the village. However, I suspect that there will be at least one human magic user in the village and if that is the case then you should even be able to use magic without making anyone suspicious."
He thought for a few moments before continuing. "Now, I don't know what powers the two of you have, but would you be able to change your hair and eyes into something closer to a human color? Black or brown, maybe?"

Uh-oh. Kitria didn't really have the power to change her hair color.
"I really...don't," she said. "But I do have a long dress and a parosel."
She disappeared into her bedroom and when she came out, she was wearing a long dress in her regular teal color, so to hide her tail, and she was carrying a simple white parosel.
"How's this?" she asked.

Vandater pondered for a moment. "Well... The only change I'm able to make is that piece of shit," she said, pointing at the sealskin she tossed earlier. "But from what I've seen, the humans here sometimes tend to have unusual coloration of eyes and hair as well... So I don't think we need to worry too much... Just as long as I keep these things hidden," she sad, pointing at her cute little fangs.
Then Kitria left to one of the rooms, only to emerge moments later with a dress that concealed her tail. "How's this?" the platypus asked.
Vandater replied. "As long as you can keep your tail from moving, that should work perfectly," she said before retracting her claws so that they looked like normal human hands. She held her hands out and looked at the other two. "How about these? Humanlike, right?"

Carlos looked both of them over. Kitria was quite pretty in her dress and the villagers would probably be paying more attention to it (and the parasol) than her hair and eyes. The lower portion of the dress seemed to be able to hide the Youkai's tail even if she did move it a little but Vandater was probably right about her having to keep it still.
To Carlos, Vandater's hands had seemed normal enough even with her claws out and he hadn't actually noticed that they were claws rather than long fingernails until the Youkai retracted them. Her fangs were even harder to spot and Carlos doubted that anyone would be able to see them from a distance unless they were looking for such features. In any case, fangs were not unheard of even humans. He'd seen a pair or two himself back in his world.
"Well, it looks like we're good to go."
