Kitria wandered out of her home. It was a new day in her small forest. She was a platypus youkai, so she decided to swim in the creek, like she had done many a day before. The platypus-girl leapt into the creek and began swimming. It was a lovely day, and a lot of fairies were flitting about. Kitria waved at them, for she loved to see them. Her katana was strapped to the side of her dress, should something happen. But she preferred not to think about that. Instead, she thought about the blue sky and the bright sun. It was so pretty. Kitria was very happy.

The serpent spiraled along the creek, speeding and ripping at the ground and water, trying to escape the source of it's bleeding, the clawed girl who clinged to it's back, no matter how hard it tried to shake her off. "Oh no you don't... I'll show you what happens when you steal my catch," she said, taking the oar from her back and shoving it into the creature's spine.
To death it fell, yet the momentum kept it going at a high speed. Like a train it rode along the creek, and the girl held tightly to the beast's neck, not wishing to be sent flying like all the water and mud the demon's corpse had sent into the air. Tightly she held on, until friction took it's course, and the body stopped only a few yards from the location where Kitria swam.
"Hey, careful there," the girl from the beast said as she pulled her oar out of it's spine, jumping down from it into the water. "You almost got plowed just now... Even after death this thing just wouldn't give up," she said, poking the dead leviathan with the butt of her oar. "... Oh, how rude of me. I'm Vandater, from Misty Lake... Do you want me to get this corpse out of here?"

Kitria eyed the dead snake. "Yes please do that," she said. "I'm Kitria the platypus youkai. Nice to meet you!" The other girl seemed very friendly. All those years Kitria had lived alone, and now finally she had a friend. "Want to come to my house?" Kitria asked. "We could have catifsh!"

"Heheh, sounds nice," Vandater said, her eyes widening a bit at the mention of fish. "Thank you so much. I'd be glad to, but first I should probably take care of this thing," she said, trying to push the giant serpent, which wouldn't budge. "Ungh... This thing's kinda heavy, though," she said, laughing slightly and looking back at Kitria.

Carlos set himself down beside the creek, intending to stay just long enough to catch his breath. He'd been trying to discover how far up the Border reached and had found out the hard way that it went beyond his powers of flight. He sat on a rock and filled his lungs with fresh air, tinged as it was with the scents of various plants.
It had been a while since his arrival in this new land and as the days passed he thought less and less of his home. Here he wasn't special and he was free from having to uphold his family's reputation, free to do whatever he wanted to do and to be whoever he wanted to be. Recently he'd even begun to think that he'd been summoned here for his own good by a being that was somehow sympathetic towards his suffering. He closed his eyes and exhaled slowly, then he got up and stretched with the intention of taking off immediately.
He heard the commotion just then and spotted a young girl wrestling with a monstrous, snake-like creature. Despite the difference in their sizes the girl clearly had the upper hand and Carlos winced as she jammed a large oar all the way into the creature's flesh. It was the exact opposite of the outcome such battles would have in his own world, and he watched with morbid fascination as the serpent succumbed to its injuries.
The hunter leaped off her quarry and addressed a second girl whom Carlos had failed to notice during the battle. Her unusual tail indicated that she wasn't human but from the way she responded it was obvious that she wasn't hostile. When the first girl tried to move her prey, Carlos decided to offer whatever help he could and walked over to where they were.

Kitria decided to help Vandater out. The dead snake was, well, gross, but Kitria wanted to do something nice for her new friend. It was then that she noticed the young man nearing the two of them. "Hello there!" Kitria greeted him. "Fine day, isn't it?"

Vandater paused from pushing the stationary snake for a moment, looking over when she heard Kitria greet somebody. "Oh, hello there," she said, noticing the man walking torwards them. "Pleasant weather we're having, eh?... Er, sorry about this thing. I'll get it out of here immediately," she continued, turning back to the serpent and trying again to push it. It still didn't move.

Carlos placed his hands on the serpent's body and pushed as hard as he could but it was like pushing a brick wall. He tried having his crystal ball push it for him, hoping that the power keeping it afloat might be able to magically overcome the weight of the carcass, but it couldn't move the thing either. Finally he tried pushing with both his hands and the ball... with the same result. He sighed and looked at the monster's killer.
"You were seriously thinking of moving this thing in one piece? Where I come from people move smaller things in pieces. Why don't you try cutting it up first?"

The dead snake thing was really gross. Kitria wanted it out of there. Then she heard Carlos's words. With that, Kitria drew her katana and sliced the snake in two. "Now I hope you can move it," she said. "I really want to do catfish with you, Vandater. And you (Carlos) can come too if you want."

"Ungh... I can do this," Vandater said, trying to push one of the halves that the serpent had been cut into... Which still wasn't moving. (note: this thing was about the size of your average shinkansen train) "Ungh... Okay... Maybe two pieces wasn't enough... You two might want to get out of the way," she said, stepping back a few yards and looking back at Carlos and Kitria before exclaiming, "Water sign... Helvetevinka!"
Immediately after the incantation, Vandater ran about 30 feet away from the creek as soon as possible, as from both directions a pair of huge waves were speeding torwards the halved leviathan corpse. The waves plummeted through the corpse before colliding with eachother and shattering back into normal water. The corpse appeared to be gone now, leave for a bunch of bone segments and the occasional indistinguishable chunk. The creek water, however, was all red now... As was some of the area around the creek. "There... That seemed to work," she said, cracking her knuckles and then turning to face the other two. "Shall we be off?"

The girl's feat surprised Carlos but he told himself that it was probably magic and thus par for the course in this land. That statement would have to become a mantra of sorts for him if he wanted to maintain his sanity here.
What he didn't get, though, was the casual manner with which the girl had destroyed the carcass. Up til now he'd believed that the battle was a hunt of some sort and that the girl was trying to obtain food for her village. It now seemed to have been more like a training session than anything else and Carlos finally managed to rationalize it by telling himself that extraordinary skills needed extraordinary levels of practice. He began to think that he should abandon all attempts to logically comprehend a place where seemingly anything was possible.
To the girl's question he answered, "I don't see why not, but introductions first if it's alright. My name is Carlos."

Good, the dead snake thing was gone. That was a relief. Kitria had jumped out of the creek when Vandater had done her wave. "All right," she said, smiling. "Nice to meet you, Carlos. Now would you two like to come over to my house for catfish?" Kitria loved making friends. It just made her world all the more exciting. She had people to talk to now, and she couldn't wait to tell them all about her.

"Sure, I'd be glad to come along," Vandater said to Kitria, before turning torwards Carlos. "By the way, my name's Vandater. It's nice to meet you, Carlos," she said with a bow, before turning back torwards Kitria and asking, "So... About how far is your place from here?"

Carlos grinned in response. The people here seemed to be much more generous than those in his world and while a sudden invitation might have made him apprehensive back there, what he'd seen of the locals told him that they wouldn't need to deceive him if they wanted to harm him in any way. In any case, the offer seemed sincere enough and he could always keep his eyes and ears open. "Catfish sounds nice."

Kitria walked up to her house. It was a nice place, with two couches and a table with a bowl of fruit on it. She went in and set three plates of fried catfish on the dining table, then went back outside. "Come on in," she said.
